Our Ministries

As Daughters of Charity, our ministry is to those who are poor—wherever they are and whatever their needs. Like our founders, we are inventive and utilize an array of ministries to help the most vulnerable members of our society.

Working in Health ServicesToday we are needed to serve victims of hunger, homelessness, substance abuse, broken families, war, and persons living with AIDS. Tomorrow, who knows? Wherever the need arises, we will respond with love and service.

Our ministries include:

  • Program facilitation and administration
  • Pastoral care
  • Social advocacy
  • Education at all levels
  • Health services
  • Support positions in many areas

Program facilitation and administration

  • Mission coordination in large hospital systems, neighborhood centers, Catholic Charities systems and residential homes for children at risk
  • Creating enrichment programs for inner-city areas
  • Serving on community boards
  • Lay leadership development
  • Developing parenting programs to strengthen families
  • Service in rural parishes

Pastoral care

  • Providing pastoral ministries in large Catholic and public hospitals, nursing homes and local parishes
  • Hosting retreats and days of recollection
  • Providing evangelization to the community
  • Giving spiritual direction to individuals and groups

Social advocacy

  • Involvement in citywide collaborative efforts for fragile neighborhoods
  • Creation of coalitions to bring basic resources to struggling persons and families
  • Working with and on behalf of women in prison and those suffering from welfare reform

Education at all levels

  • Working with religious education programs as principals and as diocesan administrators of education
  • Helping adults and children who struggle with English as a second language
  • Assisting addicts who are working to obtain their GED
  • Serving in both adult and children’s educational programs

Health services

  • Developing ways for health-care associates to recognize and share their spirituality through their work
  • Serving as medical records organizers and transcribers
  • Working as pharmacists, midwifes and patient liaisons

Support positions in many areas

  • Working as secretaries, librarians, photographers, receptionists, and an endless variety of other support positions across many fields
